There is a record in the Clerk's Office in Carroll Co., TN of a Bill of Sale from Benjaman Chapman
Dupree Eason issured to Wm. D. Pitway for the sale of a slave named "GEM". This instrument states
that Stephen Eason was advanced $100.00 expense money to go to Edgecombe County, NC
to bring the slave to Carroll County, TN. His expenses only amounted to $72.00 and Stephen Eason
gave his brother a note for the $28.00. This transaction was dated 28 September 1848.
When the 1840 census taker arrived at Arkabutla, MS which is in Tate County, Stephen Thomas
Eason is living with a cousin named William Thomas Eason on his farm. William Thomas Eason is
family # I-II4-III1-IV3. Our Stephen Thomas Eason gave his age as 21 and his birth place as North
Carolina.
In April, 1854 Stephen Thomas Eason purchased a marriage license from the Clerk, DeSoto county,
MS. He married Susan A. Cox. By the time for the 1860 census, Stephen T. Eason has died.
